H.R. 45 Urgent Update: Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, & Homeland Security

quilandinkAs of February 9th, 2009, the potential for the passing of H.R. 45 found new fertile soil in which to grow, thrive and become law, in the hands of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.

While the eyes of the country were turned to the Senate, and H.R. 1, the “American Recovery & Reinvestment Act” (aka “The Stimulus”), the bill known as H.R. 45 submitted by Congressman Bobby Rush, (D-IL) was quietly refered to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.

And while no one should be particularly suprised by the normal process of law making, anyone who ignores this dire turn of events in the case of H.R. 45 does so at their peril.  The current Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security is comprised by a majority of far left Liberals who have a consistent voting record in 0pposition to the 2nd Amendment and many of whom have recieved a justified rating of “F” from the NRA for their opposition to the right of the people to bear arms.

Furthermore, half of the Liberals on this committee are united with the original sponsor, Congressman Bobby Rush,  as fellow members with Rush of the Congressional Progressive Caucus which has been endorsed in solidarity by the “Democratic Socialists of America”, the largest Socialist organization in the United States. United with Bobby Rush in this extreme socialist movement, they will without question support his sponsorship of H.R. 45.

In unison on this committee with Bobby Rush as fellow members of the Progressive Caucus are: Maxine Waters, (D-CA), Jerry Nadler, (D-NY), Sheila Jackson-Lee, (D-TX), and Steve Cohen, (D-TN). In addition to membership in the Progressive Caucus, the Liberal left members of this committee are also well known to the NRA for their anti-Second Amendment voting records.

Congressman Anthony Weiner, (D-NY), Maxine Waters, (D-CA), Sheila Jackson-Lee, (D-TX), Zoe Lofgren, (D-CA), Jerry Nadler, (D-NY), and Chairman of the Committee, Bobby Scott, (D-VA), have all been rated “F” by the NRA. With the Liberals holding the majority on this committee and the majority of these actively involved in Socialism and rated “F” by the NRA, the groundwork has not only been laid, a sure foundation has been poured and set in stone for the success of H.R. 45 as it moves through this committee.

While some who treasure and support the 2nd Amendment have speculated that H.R. 45, “The Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009″, would merely languish in committee and die there, this is simply not realistic within the realm of this committee.  The simple truth is, this committee is not only not likely to let this bill languish and die, they are far more likely to support it, promote it and put it to the House for a vote.

If anyone fails at this point to see the danger of such turbulent waters note that this is the same House who just passed the stimulus without a hitch, and without even one Republican vote required to do so.  It is sheer folly at this point to ignore H.R. 45 and allow it to advance without protest to the current Congress.  Once on the floor, it may be too late.

It is imperative that Americans who support the Constitution and the Second Amendment right to bear arms oppose H.R. 45 now with all the gusto they can bring to the table.  The current Subcommittee on Crime has a Liberal majority of 9, to the minority of 6 Republicans – who are staunch supporters of the Second Amendment but outnumbered at this time.  These gentlemen will need our support if they are to muzzle H.R. 45 successfully in Committee before it can reach the House for a vote.

H.R. 45 has the potential to utterly destroy our Second Amendment right to bear arms via gun control unprecedented in previous legislation.  To ignore the quiet, but hazardous progress of this bill is to lay down your arms in silence.  Make your voices heard.  Silence isn’t golden anymore.  In this instance, it is muted acceptance of a fundamental loss of liberty.
